Help Stranded Himalayan Monks in Europe

Group of Tibetan Buddhist monks have been stranded in Germany for the past three months, after their European tour was cancelled due to the Corona pandemic.

They arranged beautiful venues in over 40 cities in Europe to share their ancient Ladakhi Buddhist culture and to spread the Buddha’s message of love and compassion.

Now the monks and their team needs support …

Unexpectedly, their well-planned fundraising tour to raise funds for building a school for orphans in Ladakh was cancelled completely.

They have faced unimaginable financial difficulties from having to support their cost of living in Germany so long, along with the cost of necessary health insurance and for the new return flight, during this global pandemic.

Every Euro/ Pound/dollar given goes towards this stranded Monk to cover their plane tickets back home and their cost of living until travel back to Indian Himalayas is possible again.

Dear friends of Buddhism, dear Sangha and supporters,

For almost three months now, five monks and two artists from Ladakh, India are stranded in Saarland, Germany. They are in need of urgent help. The three-month tour „Heart of the Himalayas 2020“ was organized to showcase their rich Himalayan cultural and spiritual heritage in Europe while at the same time raise funds for the construction of a school for orphans and for their annual Free Medical Care Camps to treat Ladakhi children and families in desperate circumstances.

Now the monks and artists themselves are in need of support. Their organizer Lama Samten had to cancel everything after only one week of starting on their European tour beginning of this March. Due to global travel restrictions related to the Corona pandemic, the monks and artists found themselves stranded in St. Wendel, a small town in Germany. To return home is currently impossible, as India’s borders and airports are closed.

The group is temporarily hosted at the Vietnamese Buddhist Centre in St. Wendel who with great generosity and kindness opened their doors to give a warm welcome. For the time being, the dream of the monks to raise funds for their brand-new residential school for orphans in Ladakh is on hold.

Even worse, there is now a huge deficit of EUR 15,000 in the organisation’s budget due to pre-financing of European flights, transport, accommodation, logistics, etc. It is also unclear when the group members can return home.

Urgent help is needed! We are issuing a call to raise funds in support of Lama Samten so he can get the monks and artists out of this emergency situation and they can return home safely as soon as they have the possibility to fly back to Ladakh, India.  We would also like to thank those individuals who already supported us in the last few months.

Lama Samten, the monks and artists are very grateful for any help, for whatever amount, would be greatly appreciated.

No matter how small or large the donation, all of your support will go towards monks so that they can continue their work to benefit all sentient beings in this time of a global pandemic. They are advanced Tibetan Buddhist monks who have dedicated their lives towards reducing suffering and improving the health and wellbeing of others, something which is especially needed during this challenging time.
